Screw PumpsIn-Feed Screw Pumps

Wastewater arrives to the facility and is lifted by screw pumps from the in-feed into the treatment plant. The gear units used in this process must provide the torque required along with seals and durable surface protection options.

Screening SystemScreening System

A screening system removes solids, such as wipes, from the wastewater. Screening systems use parallel-shaft helical gear units with an AC motor due to being suited for confined spaces and long-term operation.

Wash Press FeedWash Press Feed

The wash press is generally fed directly through the screen or by a conveyor. A solid shaft screw pushes the screenings into a wash area. Water is then removed in the pressing zone.

Sand Trap/Grit Classifier Sand Trap/Grit Classifier

Flow rate in the sand trap is reduced to settle heavier materials (gravel, sand, or soil). These are fed to the grit classifier. Helical-bevel gearmotors are used because the gearing is designed for high-torque with long operational hours.

Primary SedimentationPrimary Sedimentation

To allow the lighter particles to settle, the flow rate must be reduced to 0.015 m/s. Helical-bevel gearmotors are used due to the durable gearings resulting in an almost wear-free drive, even in continuous operation.

Final SedimentationFinal Sedimentation

Furter reducing the flow, saturated microorganisms sink to the bottom. The bottom sludge is pushed together with a slide feed and discharged. Helical-bevel gearmotors are ideally suited due to being able to handle heavy loads with long operating hours.

Digestion Tower Digestion Tower

Sludge forms gas, which is used for heat production. For optimal conditions, the temperature in the digestion tower must be kept consistent. Space-saving drives are required which is why parallel-shaft helical gearmotors are often used in the digestion tower.
